Concrete Evidence (Stunning Buildings In China AND In Conyers, GA.)

  Concrete...

Concrete gymnasium in ....was it Japan, Singapore, China?
I can't find it, I saw it on a website and it was exquisite! Has anyone else seen this? Tell me! (Do you also love beautifully designed buildings as much as I do?)

Happy to say, I found what I was looking for!  It was from the BBC and the piece was entitled "Stunning Buildings" and you may see them just here!  You have no idea how much time I spent looking for this but I finally found it!  Specifically, there are two photos of this gym, one view shows the building with people playing volleyball and the other view shows the inside swimming pool. The light!
The building is made of concrete and I very much agree, it is stunning. Look at that link and tell me if you think so too. (It is from Tijinian University and I want to write the architect a note of thanks for creating such beauty!)

I have written before about a very beautiful building  that is only a few miles from my home.  Here is a photo of it...

The Monastery! All of that is concrete (except the dark wood at the very top of the ceiling between the rafters) and the monks built it all.

Concrete evidence!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Friends, what is the weather like for you all in your part of the world? For Georgia, we had a warm Saturday but it rained late in the day. A cold front moved in, and the high today was only about 42 degrees! With the wind, it make if feel like it was in the 30's!
This made it a 24 degree difference from the day before.
Not to worry, after a cold start in the morning, the temp will climb to 60 as a high tomorrow and we are told that it will be a high of 76 by the end of the week!
Pay attention to the weather forecast so you know how to dress.

    1. I kept thinking of those photos of the gym and then...couldn't think where I had seen them! (Am I the only one who forgets things?) Anyway, since I spent so long on that I wanted to share it with you.

  2. The monastery is exquisite. Love that the monks built it themselves. Temperatures are mild where I live in Wa state, somewhere in the 60s.

    1. Hey Sharon! I think I have seen your name on Dennis' blog, do you attend his church in Washington state? I might be wrong, I tend to get things mixed up these days!
Anyway, you would love the Monastery, it is beautiful, you can feel the serenity of the place as soon as you arrive.

  4. I do agree that concrete can look very nice when handled properly. The weather here hasn't been too bad. It's getting colder of course, but it's still manageable.

    1. Still manageable, I like the sound of that. You Brits, you can just handle everything and with such calmness, right?
      :-)

  5. Concrete buildings can be impressive. Weather is cool(er) for the swamps, but i know we will get a bit more warm before January.

    1. You are further south than I am so I know it will warm up for you!

  6. Of course you knew that the Romans invented concrete. When I was a kid, I was convinced concrete was an invention of the 1970s - in my childhood, everything that was new was made of concrete, and most of it was not very beautiful, I'm afraid1 But tastes and aesthetic trends change in architecture nearly as often as in fashion, and nowadays, some concrete buildings are really beautiful.

We've had very mixed weather, still plenty of sun but also some rain. And a few days ago, yet another violent storm hit the North of Germany (far away from where I live), leaving some dead people in its wake and bringing railway services to a complete halt in 7 of our 16 federal states.

    1. Yes, I think even the Colosseum is made of concrete! And believe it or not, my Dad worked in construction and I heard a lot about pouring concrete, it was used in curbs and gutters. You can drive with my Dad and in much of this state he will show you much of the work that he did! (You can bet the work he has done holds up very well!)
I think I remember reading about the storms in Germany on the BBC. Storms have been bad this year all over the world.

  7. Definitely dressing in layers here as it has turned cold. I loved seeing the building in your picture. Concrete evidence for sure. Happy Halloween!

    1. I have had photos of the Monastery on my blog before, it is really the only one that I have ever seen that is made from concrete but it is beautiful.

  8. The most beautiful building I have ever seen is the National Cathedral. There are so many lovely buildings all over the world. It is a form of art.

    1. I had someone send me a card with a drawing of The National Cathedral and I cut it out and taped it on the front of my address book! I love the buildings in London, that was the first major city that I ever saw and it completely blew me away with its beauty.

  9. My goodness, who would think it of concrete? I have never liked it much but, like plywood, if used well it can be wonderful. The weather here is really rather nice, mild and sunny. We enjoyed a cycle ride in London and hanging out in the sunshine in the V & A museum courtyard.

    1. Nice, mild and sunny- that is what we usually have here but sometimes...
My son and his girlfriend were able to go to the V & A Museum in August, they liked it very much. x

  11. Its funny you mentioning architecture in other parts of the world Kay as I recently watched and enjoyed one of Atlanta's
leading architects who designed many of the modern city buildings there. Really enjoyable documentary.

    1. I wonder if it was about John Portman, who designed many of Atlanta's buildings. I just looked it up and one that he did, the Peachtree Plaza Hotel is mostly concrete and glass, an unlikely combination but it works! Thanks for mentioning this documentary, maybe they will show it on American TV one day! :-)

  12. It's spring here with summer temps over the past couple of days. I'm a keen watcher of weather reports. I'm always up to date with them and what the predictions are.

I guess it's a hangover from my days living on islands when I was dependent on weather conditions and the tides. It was imperative when taking the boat out...across to the mainland I was aware about what was going on out in the ocean and beyond.

    It's a habit I've not broken.

That monastery is beautiful...as is the photo.

    1. "My Days Living On Islands", you should write a book and use that as a title! Love your stories of those days!
The monastery is beautiful...all of it, the buildings, the land, and the peace that surrounds those who visit.

  13. As Jenny mentioned, the weather in the UK has been rather nice this weekend. As a rule I am not keen on concrete buildings but you have sent me postcards of the monastery and it looks beautiful.

    1. Hey John!
So nice to see your comment here! Lovely that you have had such nice weather!
Also, I find that post cards are hard to find these days and when I find one, it is frustrating since the photos that Richard takes of a place is so much better than a post card! Honest, he is that good!!

  14. The concrete Chinese gym was spectacular, but I especially liked the chapel in Ceres, Cape Town. I've always enjoyed the photos you've posted of the lovely monastery near your home.

    1. Yes! Wasn't that chapel in South Africa beautiful? I would love to see South Africa one day...I need to do a post about it! (Am I able to do a post about a place that I have never seen? You know I will try!)
The images of that gym...I just kept thinking how nice it would be to exercise in such a beautiful building and I thought about it all that week...and then, couldn't remember where I had it seen it on the internet!
The monastery is beautiful and I am thankful it is only a few miles from me!
