A Lovers Concerto (Bach's Minuet...or PETZOLD'S Minuet)

Same tune, different song!

Bach's minuet in D (or G) is the same tune for the hit song for The Toys in 1965, "A Lovers Concerto".  I found a video from a singer in England that does a really good cover of this song.

Now, Bach's Minuet...   reading a bit more about it, it appears that a man by the name of Christian Petzold is the one who actually composed this tune! Well, the things I learn when I am researching things for my blog! You can read all about Petzold and Bach just   here.
Hope you know and love Bach already!

Hello raggedy butterfly, even with some of your wing missing, you are still beautiful and going strong.  Let this creature be a lesson for us!

  1. One can not be German (or grow up/live in Germany) and NOT know Bach :-) My cousin's name is Sebastian, by the way, and guess why his parents chose that name!
I had piano lessons when I was young, and the minuet was one of the pieces I really liked to play, as it is so easy to learn by heart, being composed so logically.

Beautiful butterfly! I know butterflies do not live very long, and they are so fragile; yet I somehow hope this one is still around.

    1. Of course you would know Bach, but then, I think that everyone should! I love his music, always have, always will!
(I hope you told your family my "Bach Bach Bach" joke!)
You are correct, it is really almost the end of the season when we see butterflies, but even with missing wings and faded colors, they are still beautiful!

  4. Kay, Both videos were so good. I feel sad when I see a butterfly a bit beat up, but they still fly and show their beauty to us. Blessings for a beautiful weekend there. xoxo, Susie

  7. So beautiful and this minuet brought back so many memories. Almost anyone who has had piano lessons has probably studied a version of this. I certainly did. But I have never heard a guitar version, and this one is lovely. Thank you for showing us that beautiful butterfly !

    1. I should have told you...Richard plays this on the guitar and he inspired this post! I really should have mentioned this to you. I tried to get him to play it and have him on here but he is just a bit too bashful to do so. He is very good on the guitar, just as good as he is at taking photographs and raising beautiful flowers!

  8. Fascinating post! I love both versions and did not realize they were the same tune. And this is the first I've heard of Petzold!

    1. Thanks, Debra! Petzold just doesn't have the same ring as Bach...what's in a name I know but Shakespeare might not have been as popular if he had been named Smith! (No offense to anyone named Smith! LOL)

  9. The woman did a marvelous job of covering the Toys version. It must be so hard to play on the guitar. I admire musical talent... but you knew that.

    1. I also admire musical talent! Look at the reply to the comment above where I said that Richard inspired this post because he can play that piece by Bach (or Petzold I have learned now.) Whoever wrote it, I love to hear it. :-)

  10. I had no idea that these were two versions of the same piece. While I enjoy the modern rendition which reminds me of theToys', I'm a sucker for classical guitar, so I really loved that version. That butterfly is so beautiful, ragged or not. Have a great week, Kay!
