Cloudland Canyon

Sunrise over Cloudland Canyon on April 20, 2013.  I tiptoed out of the cabin very quietly, I didn't even wake the dog!

After the sun came over the mountain, it was in such sharp contrast from the darkness.  I stepped back from the rock that I had been standing on and was amazed at the golden light
flooding the rocks and trees around me.  It looked like an angel was with me.

Later that same morning, I went on a hike with my family.  I have a short video where we stopped at this clear mountain stream. You can hear my brother-in-law say that there is a lot more water in this stream than the last time they were here.  Also, you can hear my sister-in-law talking sweetly to her dog and my brother is making sure that we all have plenty of water. Thanks, Dale!  (You can hear me say one word ,"beautiful".  You  know I use that word a lot.)  Even with all of us talking, you can still hear the birds.  It really was beautiful!

This next little clip is of the first waterfalls that we hiked to, Cherokee Falls.  Like my brother said, hard to believe that the gentle mountain stream turns into this cascade of water! (The water is LOUD, you might want to turn your sound down a bit!)
Hope you liked this trip to Cloudland Canyon.  It was a beautiful time of year to enjoy it and a fantastic spot to celebrate my Dad's birthday!
Sorry I have not had much time lately to visit all the blogs that I like to read!  Hope everyone is doing well and been able to cope without me!  (It's hard, I know, but hang on, and I will be back with all of you soon!)

  1. The word "beautiful" does sum up this post. That stream was so clear! Your third pic is amazing. You captured the perfect moment with the lighting. It could be an angel there! Even though you said to turn down the volume..I didn't do it and jumped! I'm an idiot! Thanks for sharing that beautiful place. (there's that word again!) Have a good weekend!

The waterfalls must be bigger now, we just had almost 4 inches of rain over the weekend!!

  11. Beautiful! (I say that word a lot, too!)What a wonderful waterfall! What crystal clear water! How cliché ridden I am! But truly, Kay, it's wonderful and I thank you for sharing it all. I think a lot of people are not writing quite as much now. I'm sure blogging goes through "seasons", just not sure what to call them.

    1. "Cliche ridden", ha you are so funny!! (And how in the world can you make that accent mark over the word "cliche", do tell!!)
I AM glad you liked this!!
And it seems to take me FOREVER to get things done these days, it seems like I am mired in molasses. (There, this is a true Southern cliche!)

  12. Oh how I wish I had of taken the time to go exploring around the Cloudland Canyon area when had opportunities to do so. Every so often, I would wander off the beaten path to go exploring in my big truck while I was still out there trucking away from coast to coast (and then some). One of those adventures involved heading north (and slightly east) out of Cummins, Georgia on US 19 when I had plenty of time to get to where I needed to be on Monday morning. I am not sure which side of the North Carolina border I was on, but I remember coming to a place where several mountain ridges sloped down to form a little pocket of a valley that was simply breath-taking to me. It appeared to be some sort of tourist location, and I found a place to park for a little while in order to do some writing. That was long before I had much of anything to do with a computer of any sort. So, what I wrote was in longhand, and I would sure love to find it. For all I can remember is that it amazed me, and that was several years before our Heavenly Father made me aware of just how much He has always been with me, just as He has with us all. Since I now realize that I am really nothing more than a transcriber of what He gives me to publish, I do not consider it the least bit braggadocious to say that I am often amazed at what I read on the screen before me as I type away. Of course, most would consider that as being sufficient grounds for commitment in a mental health facility. Anyway, if you have not already been there, I think you will be duly impressed with what can found on the North Carolina border of northeastern Georgia. Oh, and that is where the Cherokee side of my mom's family was living before they were "asked" to join the Trail of Tears migration.

    1. OH, thank you so much for this comment!!
In the early days of our marriage, we very often went to Cherokee, North Carolina. We loved the beauty of the mountains and how quiet it was...almost everyone else went over the mountains to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Now, there is a huge casino in Cherokee, so the quiet times are past.
We spent our honeymoon just west of Cherokee, in Fontana Dam,North Carolina, which was 30 years ago this June!!
The forced removal of the Cherokees is a shameful thing and should most certainly be called and known as the Trail of Tears. It I can get my thoughts together enough, I will do a post about it.
Sometimes, I wonder at the depth of my feeling for something I have writen the same way that I marvel at my husband's photography skills! If they come to take you away my friend, just be singing God's praises all the way!
